2016-17 Outstanding Seniors
Horticulture – Erika Peirce (B.S., Horticulture, ‘17)
Erika has demonstrated great leadership through her work with the Horticulture Club. Her efforts have increased club participation and built connections with other students in the college. She has also participated in the Mid-America Collegiate Horticultural Society competition twice, and led the Hort Club to collect over 1000 pounds of food for Cans Around the Oval. In addition, Erika has been working with parasitic wasps and is now planning to go to graduate school here at CSU and continue her work with these insects.
Environmental Horticulture – Michael Schleining (B.S., Environmental Horticulture, ’17)
Michael has been involved in many student activities in our department including competing at the National Collegiate Landscape Competition last year and serving as President of Pi Alpha Xi, the National Honor Society for Horticulture. He has also done independent research on turfgrass seed germination, and this summer has been working on developing a native plant nursery on the Wake Island Airfield. In the future, Mike plans to advocate and provide support for future HLA students.
Landscape Architecture – Lindsay Hand (B.S., Landscape Architecture, ’17)
Lindsay has been very engaged in developing the LA student community through her active engagement in the Student Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects and her interactions with other students in the studio. In addition, she has volunteered in the Student Education Garden and been involved in many development projects in town. She is a First Generation student with a 3.96 GPA. With this solid background, Lindsay’s career goal is to improve the quality of urban life, and in this, we wish her the best.
